 IELTS Speaking Test

  • IELTS speaking test is just like a real-life conversation and it is the best way to assess someone's English speaking skills. 
  • The speaking test takes 11-14 minutes to complete. 
  • The test is exactly the same for both academic and general candidates.
  • You are measured by 04 marking criteria 

  1. Pronunciation - What you speak should be clear
  2. Grammar  - Not just the accurate grammar high range of grammar should be used 
  3. Lexical Resource  - It is necessary to show that you know many different words
  4. Fluency and Coherence 

The format of the speaking test is as below, 

  1. Introduction (30 seconds)
  2. There will be an examiner and she will introduce herself first and will check your identification. Give brief answers for them.

  • Part 01 (4-5 minutes)

  1. Interview 
  2. Asking simple and personal questions on some topics and your preferences.
  3. Eg: food, sports, films, books, fashion, study

  • Part 02 (3-4 minutes )

  1. You will be given a one-minute preparation time and you need to speak continuously for two minutes. 

  • Part 03 (4-5 minutes)

  1. A discussion depends on the topic in part 02. 

How to tackle the speaking test

being informal is completely alright during the speaking test. You have to have confidence. Present yourself with eye contact. Be friendly. Look at them. Speak loudly and use your hand gestures. Do not say just yes, no, and short answers. Let the examiner to judge you

Do not panic and Do not repeat the same word several times. Do not repeat the question and do not go off the topic. Try to ignore the monotone and it is completely okay to lie as you are the only one who knows whether what you speak is true or not.
