IELTS Writing Test
• The writing test should be completed within 60 minutes.• You will be given two tasks to complete the exam and the test format is same for both Academic and General training but the task types are different. below table explains the difference between academic and general tests.
Academic General
Task 01 Report Letter 150 words
Task 02 Essay Essay 250 words
• Use up 20 minutes on Task 01 and 40 minutes on task 02. This is applied for both academic and general tests.
• you are measured by 04 marking criteria
- Grammatical range and accuracy
- Lexical resource
- Coherence and cohesion
- Task achievement (task 01), Task response (task 02)
IELTS writing task 02 ( Essay)
This is common for both IELTS Academic and General. You will be given a particular topic and you should write 250 words. It is recommended to spend 40 minutes writing an essay. There are 04 types of essays in IELTS writing task 02
1. Pros and cons
2. Agree or disagree
3. Giving your opinion
4. Suggesting a solution
After having the topic you should determine what is your thinking of it. Have a clear determination. Do not balance two opinions. Writing examples is much more important in this task.

2. Mention your opinion briefly
Body paragraph 01
Mention your point
Explain it further
Give reasons
Prove it with an example.
Body paragraph 02
Mention your point
Explain it further
Give reasons
Prove it with an example.
( Do not write less than 2 body paragraphs and more than 5 paragraphs)
Conclusion
This should be similar to the introduction. Summarize what you have written in your essay and mention your final thinking on the topic.
The things can be affected by marking
• Use a range of vocabulary and do not use the same word several times.
• Use linking words and write the relevant information only.
• Write at least 250 words. An essay with Less than 250 words will be given a lower score.
• You will lose points for unclear handwriting.
• After writing one paragraph just read it before starting the next one. It’s not wasting time it helps you to link the next paragraph accordingly.
• You are not measured by your ideas and how you manage the language is only measured. Therefore you don’t have to struggle when finding the perfect ideas.
• Do not write more than 280 words. It is hard to read long answers for your examiner.
• Paragraphs should be separated and there should be the main idea in one paragraph. It makes your essay clear and neat.
